6 ELKO DAILY FREE PRESS, Elko, Nevada Wednesday, April 23, 1997 Local Nevada Legislature Til .1 ,,,3 yS v. z-' ft i A j. tl HOTLINE -14100-992-0973 Area code plan draws no interest Last week's public hearing on the probable change in the area code for most of Nevada drew no local interest, said H. Douglas Hescox, who is organizing hearings statewide. "There were absolutely zero people," Hescox said.

"We have no input from your quadrant of the state." Hescox said either there was not enough interest in the issue or there wasn't enough notification about the meeting at Stockmen's Hotel. Hescox said several alternatives are proposed: allowing Clark County to keep the 702 area code and changing the rest of the state; allowing the rest of the state to retain the current code and changing Clark County; keeping the current code in Clark County and the southern portion of Nye County plus a small portion of Esmeralda County; or just the opposite of the previous alternative. "At the other meetings around the state, people are resigned that the southern part of the state will keep the old one," Hescox said. Hescox said people can still comment on the alternatives by writing to the Nevada Code Administration, 2600 Camino Ramon, Room 1S900U, San Ramon, 94583, or by faxing comments to (510) 355-9268.
