Approximately 60 people attended the meeting, including Elko County Sheriff Neil Harris, Elko Chief of Police Clair Morris and Elko Fire Chief Alan Kightlinger. Kightlinger said the briefing was informative and reassuring. He also said it gave local law enforcement agencies an idea of all that was involved in the development of a five-year plan required to ensure public safety at a major event such as the Olympics.

"Nevada is one of the fallback resources," Kightlinger said. "There was no formal or informal request for front-line assistance this far west." He added that should local resources be necessary there is funding in place from the Nevada Division of Emergency Management to cover necessary expenditures. "It is good to know there is a command structure in place for emergency management in the event of fire, mass casualty, bomb threats, building collapse and confined space entrapment," Kightlinger said. He said the objective of the briefing was very well met and "their rose garden is completely planted and blooming beautifully." Daily free Presa Staff Writer ELKO Law enforcement agencies from Nevada, Idaho and Utah met in Elko Wednesday with representatives from the Nevada Division of Emergency Management and Utah Public Safety and Emergency Management for a briefing on the public safety command structure for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Nevada Chief of Emergency Management Frank Siracusa said the briefing was arranged to discuss security plans for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
