Puppies and kittens may be adopted for only the $10 pound fee. The shelter is located on Pinyon Drive near the city dump. Shelter hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Monday through Saturday. The shelter is closed Sundays and holidays. The Cariin Animal Shelter also has animals available for adoption. The shelter has one adult female Red Heeler and seven 8-week old puppies; an adult male Blue Heeler; and an adult female Black Labrador Regular shelter hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday through Friday and after-hour and weekend visits can also be arranged. Those interested in adopting an animal or visiting the shelter may drop by the Cariin Police Department at 152 S. Eighth St or call the department at 754-2222. The adoption fee is $25 and discounts are available on rabies shots. Cariin Animal Control Officer Darla Hoadley said she'd like to remind animal owners that dog license renewals are due March 2.

The City of Cariin will hold its annual Pet Clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wells Rural Electric Co. office at 1222 Chestnut St in Cariin. Rabies shots are $10.

City licenses are $5 for neutered and spayed animals and $10 for animals who haven't been neutered or spayed. Other immunizations will also be available. Blair, 76, a native of Elko, died Sunday of a heart attack suffered while duck hunting with his son in northern California. He was born June 5, 1921, to Guy and Elsie Blair and had attended Elko schools.

He later attended Salt Lake City Business College and the University of California, Berkeley. He worked for the Western Pacific Railroad before service in World War II from 1941-1945, where he saw action in the European Theater. Following the war, he worked as an accountant for Sam McMullen before moving to California in 1956. He retired as a vice president for American Savings and Loan and had lived in Lodi, Calif. He was a member of the Elko Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar and Kerak Shrine.

He married Bethenia Clayton of Elko, who survives him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son; Dick of Orinda, daughters, Joanne Blair of Denver, Denise Moore of Napa, and Robyn Carter of Los Angeles; sisters, Bette Guisti and Phyllis Sawyer of Elko; and eight grandchildren.
