4 ELKO DAILY FREE PRESS, Elko, Nevada Friday, July 25, 1997 SECTION Local sports Stale little League SRSA swim finals Mine softball Scorelioard volleyball y' fin -u turday's action starting at 10 a.m. Sunday's play resumes at 9 a.m., with the finals to start at 1 p.m. Scoreboard volleyball The Scoreboard Sports Lounge in Spring Creek will sponsor a sand volleyball tournament Saturday, with proceeds to benefit the Spring Creek High School girls' volleyball team. The event is for 3-player teams, and begins at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $10 per player.

A chili cookoff also is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday. Businesses and individuals are invited to enter their favorite chili. Proceeds go to the SCHS bleacher fund. Entry forms are available at the Scoreboard and in newspaper advertisements.

In-line hockey Elko's ne in-line hockey league plays its weekly youth game at 8 a.m. Saturday and its adult game at 6 p.m. Sunday. Players of all ages are invited to show up, and can register by calling Jim Wickens at 778-9813. Games are played at Southside Park.

Elko Aztecas The Elko Aztecas soccer team is scheduled to play Sunday at the Wendover Deportivo Murguias. The Elko County Hispanic soccer league game is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. (MDT). Little League Nevada's state Little League Baseball finals for players ages 11-12 begin tonight at Elko's Ernie Hall Field, with one game each night at 8, District I champion Carson Valley plays tonight against District II champ Paradise Valley of Las Vegas. Host Elko, the District III titlist, plays the winner on Saturday.

The losers' bracket final is on Sunday, the finals are Monday and a second title game if needed is on Tuesday. The state champ advances to regional in San Bernadino, Calif. Swim finals Elko is holding the Snake River Swimming Association championship meet today, tomorrow and Sunday at Elko Municipal Pool. Eleven teams 10 from Idaho are entered with preliminary races at 8:30 each morning and daily finals starting at about 2:30 p.m. Mine tournament Softball-playing miners hold the 17th annual Elko Area Mine Fast-pitch Tournament tonight, Saturday and Sunday at the Cedar Street soft-ball complex.

The eight-team tournament features teams from Elko, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca and the White Pine-Eureka area. Carlin organizers have announced a 3.5-kilometer fun run and a "poker walk" will be held on Saturday, Aug.
