Silverado defeated Elko 12-5 yesterday in the District III Little League all-stars minors division championship game in Spring Creek. Elko's Majors host state little League baseball championships Juniors softball win division, iD- host championships With a well rested pitcher, the Elko County Little League Juniors softball team blanked Winnemucca's all-stars 1(W). As Aubrey Johnston was deemed not eligible to pitch in Wednesday's game, the pitcher was sharp as was the rest of the team in the defensive shutdown.

"It definitely played into our favor," juniors manager Dane Cox said. "It was a defensive team effort Aubrey pitched what we needed." The Elko team kept Winnemucca from the bases through three innings as Cisca Moore made an unassisted double play and Johnston added two more to keep the opposition from threatening. Offensively Ame Cunningham hit one over the center-field with first and second base occupied. The three run homer in the first set the pace for the Elko County club. In other offensive production, Tiffany Urresti was 3-for-4 as was Cunningham who also hit a double and a single.

With the win, the Juniors' will host the state title next weekend with games starting July 22. He also scored four runs and had six RBIs. Cody Dalton was 2-for4 with a double and a single, he had two RBIs and he scored two runs. Kyle Yoder was 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI and he scored two runs. Danny Szczawinski scored one run, John Stefka was l-for-2 with a double and he scored twice. Javier Robles was 2-for-5 with a double, he had four RBIs and he scored two runs.

Tim Jeffris scored four Kade Anderson was 3-for-5. He had a double, two RBIs and he scored four runs. The opening ceremony and barbecue for the state tournament will be July 21. Minors By STEVE COLLINS The Little League Baseball all-stars minors division state championship Majors Boing! The Elko Little League Baseball all-stars majors division team yesterday rebounded from a 7-5 Wednesday loss to White Pine to win 28-2 and take the Division III championship.

That means Elko will host the state majors championship July 22-25. Yesterday Elko, the home team, sent 18 batters to the plate in the first inning, 14 of whom scored, while White Pine still had a goose egg on the scoreboard. "During each of our three innings at bat we had at least 10 batters per inning," said Elko manager Rory Anderson. "We talked about the game after the previous day's loss. The difference was enthusiasm.

White Pine had enthusiasm and we didn't. Yesterday our players picked up on it because they showed up with enthusiasm. They had it in the dugout," Anderson added. "After we scored 14 runs in the first inning, White Pine went a little flat," Anderson noted. For Elko, Carlos Cortez was 2-for-5 with a grand slam homer and a double.

-I' i 1 1 I mn NCT '3- Jt will be in Dayton, after Silverada won yesterday's District III championship game, defeating Elko 12-5. Silverada fought its way out of the loser's bracket at the tournament played in Spring Creek. On Sunday Elko defeated Silverada 14-2 and at that point was the tournament's only undefeated team, but Elko manager Paul Barris cautioned his players not to take the championship for granted. Silverada came back Tuesday to defeat South Lyon in the loser's bracket, then on Wednesday faced Elko again. At this point, Elko only had to win once while Silverada had to win two.

Silverada defeated Elko 9-8 in seven innings, then returned to the field yesterday for its second victory against Elko. "That extra inning game where we came back and beat Elko 9-8 really set us up and gave us the momentum. The kids were fired up today. They were ready to play. There was no contest.

We really took it to them today," said Silverada manager John Remington after the team won the district title. The manager said the players earned the title. "I've got nothing but admiration for our kids. They really fought back. They're champions of District III.

They deserve it. They worked hard for a month to practice. I couldn't be prouder of them. Brett Remington gave us three strong innings as pitcher when we needed it and Giurlani came in and shut the door on them. The kids played smart.

They played hard. Every one of them is a champion. Yesterday Silverada jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Michael Vincent and Kenny Castro scored. In the second inning Elko tied the score. Darren Travers homered, and later in the inning Chase Johnson stole home on a passed ball.

Travers was among players who homered during last year's all-starsitourna-ment, as well. In the third inning Elko took a 3-2 lead when Justin Pollard scored. But in the bottom of the third Silverada pulled ahead after Shiloh Oden scored and after Ryan Ransdell hit a single to drive in Brad Giurlani. Silverada never trailed again in the game, scoring three more in the fourth and five in the fifth. Elko did score a couple more times.

In the fifth Travers hit a double to drive in Josh Morales and in the sixth Jacob Nutting scored. Barris said the loss was hard. "It was a real tough loss. We really thought we had them yesterday, took it to extra innings, but they're a good team. They stay in there.

They have good bats. We had some defensive mistakes that really helped them along. They had five or six unearned runs yesterday and just about that many today. You cant make mistakes and win ball games. But I can't say anything against our kids.

They played hard. They have a lot of heart. We have some kids who hit the ball hard. We had three home runs in the tournament, which is pretty good for 9- and 10-year-olds. I'm really proud of them.

They're good kids," Barris commented. "We had a good tournament The kids are excellent kids. They have good attitudes, and that's what you need. It's a game, so they had a lot of fun," Barris added. ,4 I i IStrvc CnlllnVlTK PrrvM Silverado first baseman Shiloh Oden waits for the ball, which came just in time for him to tag Elko's Josh Morales out.
