A4 Wednesday, June 13, 2018 Elko Daily FrEE PrEss 1 OBITUARIES Wesley Neil Casten February 27, 31, 2018 Neil Casten passed away May 31, 2018 after a brief illness. As for his dream of going out in a blaze of glory, John Wayne style, he drew the short straw, as was his unfortunate lifelong par for the course. Neil was born in Rich- mond, CA on February 27, 1944 to Nile and Verna Cas- ten. The family, including older brother, Wayne, relo- cated to Buhl, Idaho where he, much to his re- lief, graduated high school in 1963. Neil briefly served in the Army National Guard while he attended business college.

He quickly acquired a position in sales in the electrical supply industry and moved to Elko in 1986 working as a sales manager at Magic Valley Electric Supply and later became the Branch Manager at Crescent Electric in Elko. Neil was very well respected and admired for his honest business practices and he was always there for his customers, many of whom became close friends. He leaves behind three beloved daughters, Corrie (Scott), Tara (James), and Becky (Shane) and three grandchildren, Gage, Alysha, and Connor. He also leaves behind his best friend and better half, Deena, to whom we are all indebted to for stealthily purging his closet of anything polyester. But alas, the battle was lost when he retired in 2014 and donned the classic old man suit, zip up coveralls affectionately known as his Neil was best known for his humor and sarcasm which consisted of spouting insults instead of greetings and goodbyes.

He acquired the appropriate nickname of and was often seen waving the iconic flag in his office as a conversational retort. After retiring, Neil found new hobbies which con- sisted of driving his side-by-side in the desert with his beloved mutt, Shadow, shooting the pesky ground squirrels, or whistle pigs as he called them, pestering Deena, and puttering about the garage and the house as retired men typically do. Neil will be remembered for so many things such as hogging all the cookies at house, inventing his own language when texting, and his perfected talent of waltzing in, taking over the best recliner, stealing the TV remote and torturing everyone in the house with old westerns while promptly dozing off into a very loud nap. His family, friends, and colleagues will all miss giant teddy bear heart, crusty exterior, and uncouth sense of humor. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 14th at 11:00 am at the Western Folklife Center in Elko.

The family requests that you bring your best memory to share, as we are sure the night will turn into quite the comedic event.
