B4 Saturday, June 17, 2017 Elko Daily FrEE PrEss 1 HOWARD RAY HUBBARD December 17, 1930-June 13, 2017 Howard Ray Hubbard was born in Auburn, Washing- ton on December 17, 1930 to Howard Wesley and Jo- sephine Sanford Hubbard. He passed away on June 13, 2017 in Elko, Nevada from complications of COPD. He was known as Ray, Dad, Gramps, and Papa to his family and friends. Ray was a and could fix anything, but his preferred trade was work- ing as a mechanic. He could tell you the size of a stan- dard bolt or nut just by feel, not by sight! He served in the US Army at the time of the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Germany.

He was also an incredibly talented singer. In his spare time, Ray could be seen cruising around Elko County on one of his Harley Da- vidson motorcycles. Ray married Geraldine Jensen on July 6, 1957 in Springville, Utah. They moved to Deeth, Nevada where he worked as a mechanic for the Marble Ranch for a few years before moving to Elko. He worked in many differ- ent capacities throughout his life and was well known for his strong work ethic and ability to get the job done.

Ray is survived by his sister Corajean Biegler, 2 sons Scott (Fay) and Todd (Tuula), and 1 daughter Wendy (Steven) Portrey, 8 grandchildren: Michael, Jenny, Nicholas (Susan), Josephine (Alex), Anthony (Tif- fany), Melanie (Peder), Jacob, Jon (Shiann), and 5 great-grandchildren: Stratton, Lukas, Liam, Gracie, Kristian (and one more arriving in October). He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine, and brother, Michael. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10am. LORRAINE GAY AMOS June 7, 1933-June 13, 2017 Lorraine Gay Amos, matriarch of the Martin Family, went peacefully to Our Lord on June 13, 2017 in Reno, NV. Lorraine was born June 7, 1933 in Rich- wood, W.

VA and was raised in Holler where she also raised her two chil- dren Michael B. Martin and Carol A. Martin. Lorraine also raised her youngest brother, Ronnie Martin for many years. Lorraine took in the chil- dren of many family mem- bers and even helped raise Susie her daugh- ter.

Any and all children were welcome at any time. As a grandmother, Lorraine raised her grandson, Richard Lee Martin from the age of 5 and kept in contact with him almost every day since. Lorraine married twice in her life. First, to Jim Am- ick for 8 years in West Virginia and then to Charles Lee Amos, they were married many years, both of whom predeceased her. She was lucky to have one more love come into her life, Michael Maguire.

Sadly, Michael passed away before Lorraine as well. She was 80 and he was 56 when he passed away. Lorraine loved sewing and riding in the hills, and her favorite past time was fishing. For one momentous day she held the Nevada State Title for largest Brookie caught at the Lamoille Creek, near Elko. Most of all, Lorraine loved her family first and always and her many many friends.

She was a fabulous mother, friend and confidant and will be greatly missed by all. Lorraine was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jarrell (Rose) and Albert Donald Martin, her two hus- bands, Jim and Charles, as well as her last love, Michael. She is survived by her son Michael (Bernadine) of Butte Mt; daughter Carol Martin-Thurman of Elko; grandson Richard Lee Martin (Becky) of Reno; granddaughters Jennifer and Tami; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild on the way; brothers, Jimmy (Peggy) and Ronnie (Angie) Martin both from Butte MT; as well as many nieces and nephews. JAMES ALVIN PATTANI November 26, 1935-June 7, 2017 James Alvin Pattani, known by family and friends as Jim, Jimmy, Grandpa, or passed away June 7, 2017, in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications associated with a recent surgery. He was 81 years old. Jim, a native of Elko, Ne- vada, was born November 26, 1935, to Joe and Alice Pattani.

He is survived by sons, Alvin, Eric and Robert Pattani of Elko; grandchil- dren, Ian Pattani of Boise, Idaho; Ella Pattani of Elko; and Angelo Pattani of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters-in-law, Stefanie Pattani and Jennifer Spencer; brother, Bob (Barbara) Pattani of McMinnville, Oregon; sister, June Conaty, of Sparks, Nevada; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by wife, Patricia (Patsy) Pat- tani; parents, Joseph and Alice Pattani; grandparents, Joseph and Adela Pattani; and, John and Cecilia Paleni. Jim was raised north of Elko on the Adobe Station, now known as the Pattani Ranch. Life at the station was tough with few luxuries such as running water and electricity, and an oil stove was the only means of heat during the harsh winter months so typical of the re- gion. At the time, school buses did not run north and his father made the daily treks to and from Elko ensuring his children received an education.

Jim graduated from Elko High School in 1954. Jim, a mischievous child, could not stay out of trou- ble. A notable story from his youth was the time he set fire to a valuable hay stack while smoking a cigarette behind the barn. The fire was so intense it required the assistance of neighboring ranchers to help extinguish, and was a devastating blow to an already hard pressed ranching family. Following graduation, Jim worked for Hardware Store and was a truck driver for Silver State Trucking.

It was also during this time that Jim joined the National Guard and, in time, received an honorable discharge as Master Sergeant with the motor pool. The time Jim spent in the National Guard gives rise to another notable story relayed by brother Bob who was serving in the National Guard at the same time. Once again, Jim could not keep the mischievous child in check. As Jim put it was broadcasting instead of a mistake that cost him his two front teeth at the hands of none other than Ron Smith, a local boy of much greater stature. In time, partial front teeth would provide years of entertainment for his children and grandchildren as he had difficulty keeping them in his mouth.

On August 3, 1963, Jim married Patricia Jean Landa, his sister-in-law. From this union Jim and Patsy had three boys, Alvin in 1964; Eric in 1966; and Robert in 1970. Due to the close relationship between the two families, many summer vacations were spent camping and fishing, and an occasional Thanksgiving holiday spent in Tahoe skiing. Jim was a gifted mechanic, a trade that would solidify a 35 year career with the Nevada Department of Trans- portation. He would retire from the State in 1990 as the shop foreman.

Jim is known for his love of the great outdoors an ap- preciation instilled in him at an early age by his Uncle Jules and Aunt Jenny. A considerable amount of the time was spent hunting, fishing, camping, or snowmobiling. Following his retirement in 1990, he and Patsy spent lengthy periods of time during the fall and winter months exploring the north and southwestern United States. Together, Jim and Patsy were accomplished butch- ers. So much so, they installed a walk-in cooler at their Court Street residence that has served family and friends for years.

They delighted in processing big game for themselves, family and friends, always striving to improve their sausage and chorizo recipes. In 2010, Jim lost his partner to cancer. Jim settled in to a slower way of life adopting the age of technology. Jim loved the internet and spent many sleepless nights surf- ing the web. His interest shifted to the latest household gadgets and had a steady stream of packages delivered to his home on a regular basis.

Jim enjoyed taking daily drives throughout town, and visited the family ranch on a regular basis just to check up on things, or to take a nap in his vehicle as he had not slept the night before. Jim remained independent up until the final two months of his life, and it was not uncommon for Jim and close friend, Warren Williams, to make day trips to Twin Falls to hit Costco, or to travel to Salt Lake for a medical appointment Warren might have. Jim was a simple and devoted man giving much of himself to those he loved and expecting nothing in re- turn. Although he suffered greatly in his final days, his family finds comfort knowing he is at peace and once again is reunited with Patsy, his parents and grandpar- ents. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017, at St.

Catholic Church in Elko, Nevada. A private interment will be held following the mass with a luncheon to follow at the Basque Club House. Please join the Pattani Family in remembering Jim and the life he greatly lived. The family suggests donations be made to a charity of the choice. William Kitt Lear July 24, 8, 2017 William Kitt Lear passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017 in Ontario, Oregon.

He was born in Elko, Nevada on July 24, 1937 to Bill and Louise Lear. Kitt spent his life ranch- ing beginning in Elko County, Nevada where his family ranched. He raised his family on the ranch in Currie, Nevada. love of ranching was carried on in Unity, Oregon where he purchased a ranch in 2005 and moved his cows to their new home. To say that Kitt lived through a great deal of change in ranching would be an understatement.

But, he was always steady through hard work and perse- verance. In 2015, due to health issue, he sold the Unity ranch. In 2016, Kitt sold his beloved cow herd to a young rancher. While he was sad to see the go, he was thankful that his herd would be in good hands.
